Tyler Herro is embracing his homecoming to Milwaukee. After seven seasons with the Miami Heat, the Milwaukee native is turning a corner with the Milwaukee Bucks, a team that he’s so familiar with. After all, the former Kentucky Wildcats star grew up following Giannis Antetokounmpo and the team.
In a recent interview with Eric Nehm of The Athletic, Herro recalled the time following Antetokounmpo’s arrival in Milwaukee, and how the “Greek Freak” transformed the city.
“I was 13 years old when Giannis was drafted and lived 10 minutes from the arena,” Herro said. “I know what it’s like. I’ve been through it all. I remember the Michael Redd days, Brandon Jennings days. Andrew Bogut, Monta Ellis … all those days.
“I remember those days and what Giannis did when he got there to take the city. Not only the team, but the city has grown because of him. And he got the Deer District now … like, a bunch of different things in Milwaukee that just weren’t there when he got there. Not only did he bring a championship, but he changed the city as a whole.”

It will be hard to replicate the impact that Antetokounmpo had on the city during his time in Milwaukee, but Herro can help the Bucks fanbase move on from the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.
While he’s not on the same tier as Antetokounmpo, Herro is a solid player who’s once reached NBA All-Star status and is a former Sixth Man of the Year Award winner. Moreover, he has solid career averages of 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists through 394 games in the league.
Herro entered the NBA in 2019 as the 13th overall pick in the first round of that year’s NBA draft.
