The Milwaukee Brewers own the No. 1 spot in the NL Central with a 7.0-game lead over the second-placed Chicago Cubs. With the team already in a favorable position to begin the second half of the 2026 campaign, it appears the infield could receive a boost in the latest injury update.
Reports indicate that infielder David Hamilton has officially begun his rehab assignment, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Hogg claims that the 28-year-old slugger could be back on the major league roster by late July.
“David Hamilton begins a rehab assignment with Class AAA Nashville, the Brewers have announced,” Hogg reported. “Could be a candidate to return at the start of the road trip next week.”

Based on Hogg’s return prediction, Hamilton could return by July 27 when the Brewers take on the San Francisco Giants on the road. Until then, the team will wrap up its current home series against the New York Mets before facing the Colorado Rockies in the next series.
The four-year veteran was placed on the 10-day IL due to a left hamstring strain back on July 7. Hamilton sustained the injury during the Brewers’ 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on July 6. While he is capable of playing three different positions in the infield, Hamilton was serving as the club’s starting third baseman before the injury.
Once he officially returns, Milwaukee should get a nice boost in the offense with Hamilton back in the lineup. This season, he’s managed to record 49 hits, three home runs, and 15 RBIs through 204 at-bats, giving him a .240 batting average with a .317 OBP. He’s also stolen 18 bases this year.
