Brad Paisley opened up about the trickling in of details for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding.
In an interview with the Associated Press, the country star opened up about the secrecy of the nuptials, which he attended with his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
“They were very clear with the invite,” Brad, 53, told the AP. “And I took this personally when I got the invite, because in the invite it said, ‘If you’re getting this, you mean a lot to us.’”
Brad also said he enjoyed the “cat-and-mouse game” of wedding clues and details as he approached the big day.
“[They were like], ‘We can tell you roughly where it’s going to be. We’re not going to say what building, and here’s the date, and if you’re in, we’ll tell you more,’” he said.
He recalled asking Kimberly, 54, if she wanted to go and her replying, ‘Absolutely! We’ve gotta be there.’”
Of the affair, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3, Brad said that it was “one of the least pretentious weddings” he’d ever seen.
“It meant a lot to be [there],” he added. “It was kind of a big ‘thank you’ from her to invite us.”
Back in 2007, Swift, now 36, toured with Brad as a special guest, and since then, the duo has appeared together at many music events.
Prior to their big day, Swift and Kelce, 36, made a massive $26 million donation to several charities, including Brad and Kimberly’s Nashville grocery nonprofit, The Store. Brad and Kimberly shared their gratitude to the pop megastar and NFL player in many social media posts and interviews.
“We’re truly inspired by Taylor and Travis’s generosity to so many wonderful organizations, and extremely grateful that The Store is included among them,” the couple said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.
They added, “This gift will go a long way toward helping our neighbors facing food insecurity in Nashville. What a beautiful way to celebrate the beginning of a marriage!”

Recently, Kimberly’s sister, Ashley Williams, spoke with PauseRewind about how her sister and the “Without You” singer prepared for the phone-free wedding and how it was a “very big stressor.”
“She was like, ‘What do I do if I have to go to the bathroom? And then I come back from the bathroom, and I don’t know anybody.’ The strategy was to take people with you to the bathroom,” Ashley said during the July 9 interview. “There was a lot of, like, ‘I have to pee. Can you come with me?’ ”
She added, “She was also like, ‘How am I gonna know what time it is?’ So Brad actually bought a watch because you were not allowed to have Apple Watches, either, so Brad bought just a watch so he could know what time it was.”
