After an intense nomination ceremony and an important Veto competition, Devens' decisions surrounding the Power of Veto will shape the next phase of Big Brother28. Big Brother has already been an intense, exciting season after just two weeks of gameplay, which has brought an exciting element to keeping up with the moves around the house. After winning Head of Household, former Survivor Rick Devens has been powering through the week, taking the Power of Veto competition, as well. After nominating Melody, Lyric, and Jason for eviction, it was a fierce battle between the HOH and nominees to move forward.
With Devens hoping to move ahead with a plan to backdoor Rome, who's been aligned with his showmance Lyric and several others in the game, the hope for the Veto was that it would be used. Devens, Lyric, Melody, Jason, Angela, and Barrett all played in the competition, but it was a landslide win for Devens, who got to work on deciding who he would take down from the nomination block in order to put Rome up. While the clear choice seemed to be removing Melody to leave Rome and Lyric both on the block, things quickly began to unravel.
Lyric made the move to attempt to distance herself from Rome, the pair orchestrating a fake breakup for the rest of the house, and then began to cozy up to the other guys in the house, using flirtation as a strategy to garner votes. Asking Devens to use the Veto and offering him safety in return, the HOH quickly began to rethink his original strategy. While saving Lyric or Melody didn't much matter, as the target was Rome and the backup was Jason, the strategizing in the Big Brother house began to get overwhelming ahead of the critical Veto meeting.
Devens Chose To Save Lyric With The Veto, Then Nominated Rome
After an intense few days post-Veto competition where the house was never quite at a consensus surrounding who should be taken off the nomination block, Devens chose to use the Power of Veto on Lyric. While the choice to take down one member of the showmance in order to put the other member up on the block is a risky one, Deven seems to feel that it was the right choice with the level of safety that Lyric was offering moving forward. Though the young lawyer has been upfront that she'd keep Devens safe, the deal may not hold water.
While Lyric, who has been talking about Devens behind his back consistently, may be telling the truth, it feels more likely than not that she's simply hoping to gain her safety before moving forward with striking against the reality TV veterans on the show. Melody, who also made it clear that she wasn't coming after Devens, has been promised consistently that she won't be the target of the eviction. Even so, choosing to leave Melody on the block leaves the risk that the house's tides could turn as the game continues on prior to Thursday's second live eviction episode.
With Jason, Rome, and Melody now on the block, they'll have one more chance to save themselves with the BB Blockbuster competition. While the Blockbusters are typically more chance-based than skill-based, the competition could be a chance for Melody to make it clear that she's stronger than the rest of the house thinks. If Jason or Melody win, it currently stands that Rome would be leaving the Big Brother house. If Rome wins, however, it's likely that Jason's time on the show will come to an end. Regardless, an exciting week of Big Brother will lead to an exciting eviction.
