The Boston Red Sox started Wednesday by extending their astonishing winning streak to 15 in beating the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore returned the favor quick, though, in claiming the second game of the doubleheader 5-1.
The Red Sox matched their previous best winning streak of 1946. Joe Cronin managed that roster to a 104-50 overall finish. The late Ted Williams and Dom DiMaggio spearheaded the batting order.
This Red Sox team features Willson Contreras and Ceddanne Rafaela powering the offense. The latter smacked a home run during the first game, occurring in the bottom of the fourth inning. But the Orioles bottled him to 0-for-4 at the bat.

Shortstop Andruw Monasterio led Boston with two hits, one off a single in the bottom of the fourth. Contreras delivered one run and pounded one hit, the former coming during the fourth.
Masataka Yoshida pounded one hit along with Anthony Seigler. Both became the last Red Sox players to get on the hitting stat sheet.
Boston hadn’t been bottled to one run since June 30, with the Washington Nationals blowing out the Red Sox 8-1 that day. The Red Sox produced 12 games of surpassing the five-run mark since that loss.
Baltimore right-hander Kyle Bradish claimed the win for the Orioles in pitching six innings. He struck out four batters while allowing four hits. Eduardo Rivera took the loss for Boston, throwing in 0.2 innings but surrendering four runs and three hits. Brayan Bello earned the start and stood on the hill for five innings. Bello struck out five Orioles batters but allowed a quartet of hits.
