Azzi Fudd and the Dallas Wings lost to Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty, 99-98, in overtime on Monday, snapping their six-game winning streak. Stewart poured in game highs of 33 points and eight assists while also hauling in 13 rebounds. After selecting first in the WNBA drafts in 2025 and 2026, Dallas is now 17-9 and has the fourth-best record in the league as the All-Star break approaches.
The 2025 No. 1 overall pick, Paige Bueckers, who did not play in Monday's game, and the 2026 No. 1 overall pick, Fudd, both former Connecticut Huskies stars, play a large part in the franchise's turnaround. Bueckers, who was recognized as an All-Star starter and captain, is averaging 20.9 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists while making 1.8 3-pointers per game and shooting 38.5% from 3-point range.
As a rookie, Fudd has shown she belongs, averaging 13.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals in 31.6 minutes per game. The 5-foot-11 guard has shown a tremendous shooting stroke, averaging 2.0 3-pointers per game while shooting 38.8% from deep. On Monday, the 23-year-old made WNBA history with her 3-pointers.
The game against New York on Monday was the 25th game Fudd has appeared in this season. Fudd played a game-high 43 minutes, scoring 15 points while hauling in one rebound and dishing out two assists. The Virginia native went 3-for-6 from 3-point range, bringing her season total to 50 made 3-pointers.
After the game, it was revealed that reaching 50 made 3-pointers in 25 games made Fudd the fifth-fastest player in WNBA history to reach 50 career 3-pointers. Fudd has been on a hot streak, as the rookie has made three or more 3-pointers in four straight games.
