Entering Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays hold a 1.5 game lead in the AL East with their 57-42 record. They will be clear buyers at the MLB trade deadline.
The Rays have all the ammunition needed to make a blockbuster deal. Their farm system is loaded and just added No. 2 overall pick Grady Emerson to the mix. They have a flexible roster and could move players around to accommodate new additions. Furthermore, Tampa Bay is firmly in the World Series hunt, rumors have already begun swirling of the franchise going all-in at the deadline.
When looking at potential prospects who could be traded, any one in the Rays’ top 30 would make sense. But if Tampa Bay really wants to make a splash, it’ll likely cost them one of the better options in their current farm system.

As it stands, three Rays prospects rank inside the top 100 of MLB Pipeline’s overall rankings. If Tampa Bay does truly push all their chips in, one or more could be ending their season on a new franchise.
Theo Gillen – OF
MLB Pipeline rank: No. 9
Gillen was originally an 18th round pick back in 2024. It hasn’t taken long for him to now shoot up the prospect rankings, despite having to battle through both calf and finger injuries.
Over his 155 minor league games, Gillen has hit .289 with 19 home runs, 80 RBIs and 70 stolen bases. During the 2026, which he has split between Single and Double-A, the outfielder has hit .319 with 14 home runs, 60 RBIs and 33 stolen bases.
Gillen’s speed has been undeniable on the basepaths. Now his bat and power are starting to match. He would be a clear headliner if offered in any major trade.
Nathan Flewelling – C
MLB Pipeline rank: No. 71
Flewelling was another 2024 draft pick, joining the Rays in the third round. High caliber catching prospects could be hard to find. But the 19-year year old has certainly shown plenty of potential already.
Through 184 minor league games, the backstop is hitting .242 with 22 home runs, 100 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Flewelling is hitting .257 with 16 home runs, 48 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 76 Single-A games this season.
With growing power still early in his development, Tampa Bay may be unwilling to part with Flewelling. But he could also be the exact time of player opposing teams are looking for.
Caden Bodine – C
MLB Pipeline rank: No. 92
Bodine is the second catcher on the list and round out Tampa Bay’s top 100 trio. Perhaps the fact they have two premier catching prospects makes it more likely one of them is dealt.
Over his 89 minor league games thus far, Bodine is hitting .348 with 10 home runs, 68 RBIs and five stolen bases. Most of that product has come in 2026, where the catcher has hit .351 with 10 home runs, 64 RBIs and five stolen bases through 78 games between the Single and Double-A levels.
Bodine has risen through the ranks with his breakout 2026 performance. Perhaps an acquiring team could view him as their potential catcher of the future.
