LAS VEGAS — After years of watching the top picks get shut down after just two games in NBA Summer League, Caleb Wilson decided to take a different path. The Chicago Bulls No. 4 overall pick surprised many when he played in four games during the Summer exhibition, including a back-to-back set.

Before the games could be played on the court, however, the rookie class took part in one of the most important meetings of their young lives with the Rookie Transition Program.

“I just took away that there’s a lot of stuff that comes with being an NBA player outside of the game,” Caleb Wilson told ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview in Las Vegas, Nevada. “There’s two aspects of life, being on the court and off the court, and you just have to protect yourself off the court by making smart decisions.

“Also, just how to attack life outside of basketball. That’s what I was looking forward to learning. I feel like basketball is going to figure itself out, but figuring out how to maintain a good, healthy, positive life and mental mindset was actually important.”

The seminars, which the NBA has been hosting in partnership with the National Basketball Players Association, has been set up to help the incoming rookie class prepare for the life changes they’ll undergo as professional basketball players.

The first session took place before the first day of Las Vegas NBA Summer League, with former Basketball Hall-of-Famer Chris Bosh in attendance to provide his insight. and this 2026 rookie class is scheduled to take part in another few sessions in the middle of August.

Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson spoke exclusively with ClutchPoints after the first session at the Rookie Transition Program, where he broke down what he took away from the seminar and what he’s looking forward to in his rookie season.

Tomer Azarly: How are you handling everything in what’s been the biggest month of your life?

Caleb Wilson: You know, I’m just, I’m taking naps and just going along with the flow, honestly. It’s all going by really fast, but I’m just enjoying the moment.

Tomer Azarly: What’s it been like being able to share this with your family and the special people around you as you embark on this next step in your journey?

Caleb Wilson: It’s been really cool. Everybody’s just been supportive and it’s just made it easier for me.

Tomer Azarly: Who are the people in your circle that you can rely on, that you can go to and talk to about anything?

Caleb Wilson: That’s really my parents. That’s really what I talk to about anything. They’ve been telling me to just make sure that I keep the main thing the main thing and I stay focused on what my goals are.

Tomer Azarly: You guys took part in the Rookie Transition Program in Las Vegas. How did it go and what did you take away from it?

Caleb Wilson: I just took away that there’s a lot of stuff that comes with being an NBA player outside of the game. There’s two aspects of life, being on the court and off the court, and you just have to protect yourself off the court by making smart decisions.

Tomer Azarly: Is there anything in particular you were looking forward to learning about when you entered that session?

Caleb Wilson: Just how to attack life outside of basketball. That’s what I was looking forward to. I feel like basketball is going to figure itself out, but figuring out how to maintain a good, healthy, positive life and mental mindset was actually important.

Tomer Azarly: You guys are becoming businessmen now. What did you kind of learn about how to handle the financial aspect of this life?

Caleb Wilson: It just taught me that you really have to be smart with your money to make the best decisions for you. Like I said, do what’s best for you. Just know that in this scenario, nobody’s dealt with the amount of money that we have. So just know what’s right for you and just be conscious that your career is 15 years and it can go by fast.

Tomer Azarly: What did you learn about managing relationships with coaches, the people you’re going to be working with every day?

Caleb Wilson: It just taught me that just to be respectful to all your coaches and to know that you have space to learn and just to be a sponge. We don’t know it it all.

Tomer Azarly: You guys had Chris Bosh in the building, a guy who’s played and won at the highest level. What was it like to have him there and what’s something you took away from him?

Caleb Wilson: It was big. He’s a legend and just having someone there that’s played at the highest level and someone that you respect and someone that you idolize, it just meant a lot. It was just nice to meet the people in person in general. Chris just told me that he really enjoyed watching me play this past year. That was just big for me knowing he’s such a legendary player and he played power forward.

Tomer Azarly: Gambling is another topic of discussion, and that’s become so prevalent in sports. What did you learn about that and how careful you have to be with that?

Caleb Wilson: I just learned to just keep everything close to the chest. There’s just so many things that people use to get ahead in that aspect of the game. I just learned to just keep all the information to myself. That’s really all I can say about that.

Tomer Azarly: You’re here in Las Vegas for quite a while. What has the Vegas experience been like for you, playing and off the court and everything like that?

Caleb Wilson: It’s just been great. Off the court, it’s definitely different. Everybody knows who you are, hotel lobbies are hectic and all that stuff. But then again, it’s just a part of the game. Being on the court has just been fun. Playing basketball is the easiest part. So it’s been a lot of fun.

Tomer Azarly: Are you a guy who likes to focus solely on basketball or do you have off-the-court ventures and like to meet fans, stuff like that?

Caleb Wilson: I’m not really an off-the-court venture type-of-guy. I usually just stay in my hotel room. Not because I’m not, but because I’ve been so tired lately, but I can see myself maybe doing that later.

Tomer Azarly: Where did you get this confidence you’ve been displaying from?

Caleb Wilson: It just comes from just hard work. And just knowing that I’ve been putting in a lot of work. I feel like confidence comes from working. And I do that.

Tomer Azarly: You played four Summer League games when a lot of the top picks only play two games and then sit out. Why was it important for you to play, especially on a back-to-back set, in Vegas?

Caleb Wilson: It was just really important because I feel it like prepared me for the next level, being in the NBA and playing back-to-backs. Also I just really wanted to get a win before I was out and done playing.
