The ‘The Way Home’ star has acted alongside both of her daughters.

- Andie MacDowell shares three children with her ex-husband, former model Paul Qualley.
- Their daughters, Margaret Qualley and Rainey Qualley, are both actresses. Rainey also releases music under her birth name, Rainsford.
- The Way Home star’s firstborn, son Justin Qualley, is a real estate agent in Montana.
Andie MacDowell doesn’t mind experiencing “reverse nepotism” as her kids blossom into their own careers.
The Groundhog Day actress (and former InStyle cover girl) is quick to sing the praises of her daughters Rainey and Margaret Qualley, both fellow actresses, and her son Justin, a real estate agent. She shares her three children with ex-husband Paul Qualley, a rancher and former model. The couple was married from 1986 to 1999, raising their kids between Montana and North Carolina.
When MacDowell’s daughter, The Substance star Margaret Qualley, married Jack Antonoff—before they announced their separation in July 2026—MacDowell said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “I’m now cool because I’m Margaret Qualley’s mom and also Jack Antonoff’s mother-in-law. So it’s a double whammy. [I get] letters in the mailbox. ‘I think you’re wonderful,’ and you know, they’re 13!”
The hype goes the other way, of course. In 2021, Margaret starred across from her mother in Netflix limited series Maid. “I proposed the idea [of MacDowell playing my mother] and everyone was really excited about it,” she recalled to The Hollywood Reporter. “And then I was like, ‘Oh God, I hope she actually does it.’ But luckily she wanted to do it, and she came out right away and then it was heaven. I got to work with somebody that I’ve grown up admiring since the fricking get-go — my very first idol.”
Here’s everything to know about Andie MacDowell’s 3 kids: Justin, Rainey, and Margaret Qualley.
Justin Qualley
MacDowell first became a mother in 1986, welcoming son Justin Qualley with then-husband Paul.
At the time, she was struggling to make it as an actress in NYC, and wrote on Instagram in a since-deleted 2021 post that becoming pregnant altered her life for the better. “Everything changed about who I was in that moment because I no longer cared about anything like I cared about him,” she captioned the birthday tribute post to her firstborn, per People.
She added, “This was back in the days when we called this for women ‘having it all.’ As if we were being greedy to want to be able to have a career and have children. I made it work and he was the magic I needed, the love that filled me up along with my other children to give me the courage to be all I could be.”
Today, Justin works as a real estate agent in Montana and lives a more private life than his sisters. In 2022, he and his wife, Nicolette Qualley, made MacDowell a grandmother, welcoming daughter Cozette. After the baby’s arrival, the Four Weddings and a Funeral actress told TODAY, “I’ve never had somebody look into me and see my soul like that. It was definitely a soul-to-soul connection.”
In June 2023, Justin and Nicolette got married, with Cozette and her grandma in attendance, according to Brides. “A perfect wedding full of love,” MacDowell, 68, wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post.
Rainey Qualley
MacDowell and Paul welcomed their second child, daughter Rainsford “Rainey” Dubose Qualley, on March 11, 1989.
She was in Montana during her early years, but primarily grew up in North Carolina, she told Autre in 2016. “Spending my early years in Montana was very idyllic. I remember playing outside catching salamanders in the streams and riding horses and building forts in the forest,” she said.
Her introduction to Hollywood came in 2012, when she appeared alongside her mother in the 2012 comedy Mighty Fine. Her other acting credits include the 2018 sci-fi film Perfect, a 2015 episode of Mad Men, and a main role in the 2020 Freeform miniseries Love in the Time of Corona.
Rainey has also released music, dropping two EPs since 2015 under her birth name, Rainsford. Cara Delevingne directed the video for her song “Crying in the Mirror,” while Kaia Gerber starred. Asked what her mom thought about her career turn in April 2015, she told E! News, “She’s very supportive. Of course, like any parents would be, she has moments where she’s like, ‘Don’t you just want to have a normal life and be away from the spotlight?’ But, especially now that things are really starting to happen, she’s psyched.”
In 2023, Rainey served as her mom’s date at the 2023 Academy Awards. She’s also joined her at fashion shows and film festivals over the years. The multi-hyphenate added mom to her list of titles in December 2024, welcoming a child named Bluebell Coyote Wilson (per People) with partner Anthony Wilson.
Margaret Qualley
MacDowell and Paul’s youngest child, Margaret Qualley, arrived on October 23, 1994.
Initially, Margaret was drawn to dance, studying at the American Ballet Theatre at 16 years old, per The Hollywood Reporter. She also ventured into modeling before becoming an actress, almost by accident. When she visited the set of Gia Coppola’s 2013 drama Palo Alto to see then-boyfriend Nat Wolff, who was in the movie, the director approached her about having a role. “I was just hanging out and she was like, ‘Let’s just make use of you,’” she recalled to THR.
Although she enrolled at NYU, she dropped out after a semester when she was cast in The Leftovers. She’s since added numerous acclaimed roles to her resume, including her buzzy star turn in horror-satire film The Substance opposite Demi Moore, which landed her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
“She’s crushing it,” MacDowell said of her daughter in a January 2025 appearance on The Late Show. “She’s great, so good in The Substance, and the movie is fantastic. And she takes so many chances, she’s so much braver than I could have ever been. She really carved her own road, [and] I’m super proud of her.”
When Margaret’s preparing for a project, her sister Rainey told E! News in 2025 they “will run lines together a lot and just help each other with scenes, help each other with self-tapes.” She added that it was wonderful to have “someone that’s in the world and understands what you’re doing.”
As for her personal life, Margaret wed music producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff in August 2023. People reported their separation in July 2026, citing a source who said the couple is still “figuring things out.”
