“The queen was there for a reason,” royal writer Robert Jobson told Page Six: “To make sure that everything was witnessed.”

Charles’s strict protocol was potentially in response to Harry and Meghan’s previous comments about the royal family in their Oprah Winfrey interview, their Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, and Harry’s memoir Spare, where they have “spilled innumerable royal family secrets and allegations,” per the outlet.

The visit marked the first time the king had seen his grandchildren in four years, when they attended Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in the U.K. in June 2022. Meghan and Harry later returned months later when they attended the queen’s funeral in September.

Photos from the estranged family's reunion and additional details were not made public, as it was a “private family meeting,” according to People.

Jobson added, “The only people who know [what happened at the meeting] were inside the room.”

Though his relationship with his family has been complicated over the years, the Duke of Sussex recently shared a rare update on his father’s health following his cancer diagnosis.

When Harry made an appearance at the Time100 Sports Gala on July 16, he was overheard telling guests that Charles is “doing great,” per Page Six.

Buckingham Palace previously announced that the king had been diagnosed with cancer in 2024.

Last December, Charles provided a positive health update and said his cancer treatment would be “reduced.”

"Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year," he said.
