Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston gave teammate Makayla Timpson credit for stepping up for the team during her absence.
Ahead of the Fever’s showdown with the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, Boston talked to the media during the team’s practice.
At one point in the interview, Boston was asked about her thoughts on Timpson, who stepped up in her role when she was out due to injuries. Boston sat out Saturday's win against the Seattle Storm due to a leg injury, and Timpson started in her place.
“She’s been killing it,” Boston said. “Yeah, I think KK (Timpson) is focused. But I think KK’s always been that type of player too. I mean, she’s super athletic, and I think her ability to guard any position on the floor.”
The No. 1 pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft also commended Timpson’s effort when she’s out on the court, especially when crashing the boards.
“And I think you see it with her rebounding, her blocks, just the way that she affects the game. I think it’s been tremendous for us,” Boston continued. “She’s just been doing such a great job, so I’m proud of her.”
Timpson has been productive when Boston is out. The four-time All-Star was also sidelined on July 8 against the Los Angeles Sparks, and Timpson posted nine points and five rebounds.
Then on Thursday, she almost had a double-double of eight points and nine rebounds against the Storm to help Indiana secure a 110-107 victory.
Boston highlighted that it’s all thanks to Timpson’s growing self-belief that she reciprocates from receiving more playing time.
“I mean, just her confidence,” Boston said. “I think, you know, being able to put her on the floor and she knows exactly what she needs to do; she doesn’t second-guess herself.”
“She knows her automatic movements, and I love that for her, and then she does what she does well, which is rebound, block shots, and just affect the game.”
Now that both of them are available to play, Timpson could still give Boston crucial rest on the bench while contributing valuable minutes to Indiana.
