Aaron Rodgers is offering his clearest evidence yet that his fractured family relationships are beginning to heal. After spending years largely silent about his estrangement from his parents and brothers, the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback shared an intimate collection of family photos featuring his mother, Darla, father, Ed, and older brother, Luke. The images do more than document a single reunion: They appear to fulfill the hope for reconciliation Rodgers expressed while publicly unpacking the painful history behind the rift.
Rodgers posted the family carousel on Instagram on Monday, July 20, alongside the understated caption, “Another bonding week. #fam.”
The pictures showed the NFL veteran embracing his mother and smiling beside his father. He also appeared seated next to Luke, while another photograph captured the brothers assembling a unicorn toy for one of Luke’s children. The carousel also featured Luke’s wife, Aimee Rodgers, and a young girl who appeared to be the couple’s daughter.
The phrase “another bonding week” also suggests that the gathering may not have been an isolated meeting. Rodgers, however, did not disclose when he initially began reconnecting with his family or what ultimately helped them move forward.
Jordan Rodgers Was Missing From The Family Pictures
Rodgers’ younger brother, Jordan, was noticeably absent from the carousel. However, the former “Bachelorette” contestant liked the post, as did his wife, JoJo Fletcher. The Instagram interaction does not confirm that Aaron and Jordan have fully reconciled, but it represents a public gesture of support after years of tension between the brothers. Aaron and Jordan also currently follow one another on the platform.
The distinction is important because the Rodgers family estrangement has never appeared to involve only one relationship. A source previously told PEOPLE that a longstanding sibling rivalry eventually erupted into a larger conflict after the brothers’ parents became involved.
“[They] have always been competitive, and they’re always trying to one-up each other,” the source said. “It’s been that way since they were kids. They got older, and the stakes got higher.”
The new photographs confirm progress between Aaron, his parents, and Luke, but Jordan’s absence leaves at least one part of the family’s current dynamic unclear.
The Family Rift Became A Storyline On ‘The Bachelorette’
The private dispute became national entertainment news in 2016 when Jordan discussed Aaron’s absence during Fletcher’s season of “The Bachelorette.” “It’s just the way he’s chosen to do life,” Jordan explained on the ABC dating show. “I chose to stay close with my family and my parents and my brother [Luke].”
During Jordan’s hometown date, Fletcher joined the family for dinner, where two empty chairs emphasized the absence of Aaron and his then-girlfriend, Olivia Munn. The moment transformed a private family conflict into a reality television storyline and shaped how the feud was publicly understood for years.
Aaron later challenged that portrayal in the Netflix docuseries “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma,” claiming he had never been invited to the dinner.
“I was quiet about it because I thought the best way to do it was don’t talk about it publicly,” he said. “And what did they do? They go on a bullsh-t show and leave two empty chairs. They all agreed, like, this was a good thing to do, to leave two empty chairs at a stupid dating show … But like, a dinner that was during the [NFL] season, that I was never asked to go to, not that I would’ve gone.”
Aaron Rodgers Previously Said He Was Open To Reconciliation
The reunion arrives after Rodgers used his Netflix series to explain that the problems within his family began long before “The Bachelorette.”
While reflecting on his upbringing, fame, religious beliefs, and strained relationships, the Super Bowl champion said that he did not harbor “ill will” toward his relatives and remained open to repairing the damage. “I do believe in healing, and I believe in the possibility of reconciliation at some point,” Rodgers said in the documentary.
That earlier statement gives the July photographs additional significance. His post appears to show movement from a theoretical willingness to reconcile toward an active effort to rebuild those relationships.
Netflix describes “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma” as a three-part series examining the defining moments of Rodgers’ life as he recovered from the Achilles injury that ended his first season with the New York Jets after only a few plays. The documentary also gave Rodgers an opportunity to present his perspective on a family story that had often been told by other people.
The Rodgers Family Feud Included Several Painful Public Exchanges
The estrangement continued playing out publicly after its 2016 reveal. In 2018, Jordan celebrated National Sibling Day without mentioning Aaron. Later that year, Aaron pledged $1 million to assist people affected by the devastating California wildfires, prompting Jordan to accuse him of failing to check on their parents as the fires threatened their area.
“When your own Mom is home alone during the fires, car packed ready to evacuate, & you miss the fundamental first step of compassion; calling your parents to make sure they are safe … Everything else just feels like an act,” Jordan wrote on X at the time.
Religious differences added another layer to the family’s conflict. In a 2020 appearance on Danica Patrick’s “Pretty Intense” podcast, Aaron questioned elements of the Christian faith in which he was raised. “I don’t know how you can believe in a God who wants to condemn most of the planet to a fiery hell,” he said.
A source told PEOPLE that his immediate family was “dismayed” by the remarks. Now, the new pictures represent a striking change. They do not answer every question surrounding the family or establish that Aaron and Jordan have resolved their differences, but they show that a rift once defined by empty chairs and public accusations is no longer entirely frozen in place.
