The shark bit the boat engine.

An offshore boating trip took an unexpected defensive turn when a social media creator managed to redirect a large tiger shark that was repeatedly biting her boat’s outboard motor. Content creator Gypzeee posted footage of the close encounter online, showing the apex predator swimming up near her boat and trying to chew on the expensive equipment.

As reported by BroBible, instead of panicking or calling for help, the boater calmly reached down into the water and physically pushed the shark away three separate times to protect her engine. For most people, simply reaching into the water and touching the shark itself might sound unorthodox or even stupid, the action eventually allowed Gypzeee to keep her boat, or even her life.

The dramatic video captured the tiger shark circling the stern while ignoring the boat’s noise and metal structure. Marine experts note that tiger sharks are famously opportunistic eaters often lured in by bright or reflective objects, which likely drew the animal directly toward the blue casing of the outboard motor. After being nudged away for the third time, the shark rolled onto its back, snapped its jaws in frustration, and slowly swam back into deeper water.

Viewers Were Surprised That The Risky Tactic Worked

The unusual play on the water sparked heavy debate in the comment section, with many comparing the shark’s stubborn behavior to that of an overly friendly pet. “Sharks are ocean puppies, she is on Love! Dolphins are the real menaces, look into it sometime!” one viewer said.

Other observers pointed out that while tiger sharks can be curious, they remain formidable predators that require cautious handling in open waters. Some pointed out Gypzeee’s simple yet dangerous tactic as not really the most optimal strategy to turn away sharks in the ocean. “They’re such adorable menaces. Did you see the vid where a tiger shark dropped a rock over some divers?” another commenter said.

Despite the intense clip, safety specialists stress that unprovoked shark interactions remain extremely rare for swimmers and boaters alike. Global statistics show roughly 60 to 65 unprovoked shark attacks worldwide each year, with only about six resulting in fatalities. Experts advise anyone encountering a shark in the wild to remain calm, avoid frantic splashing, and back away slowly to avoid triggering a predatory response.
