Prince George is celebrating his 13th birthday. To mark the occasion, his parents, Prince William (44) and Princess Kate (44), have released a new official portrait of their eldest son. They posted on their social media channels with the caption "Happy 13th birthday, George!".
The photo was taken according to "Mail Online" at Kensington Palace by photographer Matt Porteous, who has worked for the family on several occasions. George is wearing an elegant dark suit with a white shirt underneath. According to the report, the photo was taken last month around the time of the Trooping the Colour military parade. He smiles at the camera in a casual pose with his hands in his pockets.
Boarding School Begins in September
Prince George will transfer to Eton College as a boarding student in September. He is following in his father's footsteps, who met some of his closest friends at the school. At the same time, William and Kate are carefully introducing their firstborn to public life. George is taking on slightly more official engagements each year.
He was most recently seen with his family at Wimbledon earlier this month. He is unlikely to make many more public appearances before the start of school in the fall.
An Expert on George's Path
As royal expert Robert Jobson explained in the "Daily Mail", William and Kate have comprehensively supported their son through the school transition. George himself requested to board during the week at his previous school, Lambrook. This helped him become part of a community.
Jobson describes George as intelligent and passionate about history. He plays soccer and hockey and, like his father, is a fan of Aston Villa. The boy has also had some difficult experiences: he witnessed his mother fight and defeat cancer, and how his grandfather King Charles (77) lives with the disease. He has emerged from this strengthened.

The release of official portraits for George's birthday has become a tradition. His twelfth birthday picture was taken by photographer Josh Shinner in Norfolk. For his eleventh birthday, Kensington Palace shared a black-and-white photo showing George in a suit.
