As the rain poured down at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Justin Wrobleski was on a roll for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fresh off his first-ever All-Star appearance, Wrobo was able to take care of business consistently against the Phillies, with a lone blemish, an Alec Bohm RBI in the first inning, peppering an otherwise perfect outing.
And yet, after dealing seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings of action, Dave Roberts decided to pull the 26-year-old in favor of Evan Phillips. Why? Well, California Post’s Jack Harris revealed just that on social media, noting that Dave Roberts hinted at a light night for Wrobleski before the game due to his extensive first-half workload.

“Justin Wrobleski picked up where he left off in the first half tonight: 6.1 innings, one run, five hits, one walk, seven strikeouts. His ERA is down to 2.62,” Harris wrote.
“FWIW, Dave Roberts said pregame the Dodgers ‘got to be mindful of the workload’ for Wrobleski the rest of this season (after tonight, he is already at a new career-high for IP in a season, majors or minors). Cutting him off at 89 pitches right there might be an example of that.”
As crazy as it may sound, Wrobleski really has been putting in work for the Dodgers in 2026, with his innings pitched through his last 17 appearances already more than his first two major league seasons combined. Fortunately for LA, that uptick in innings has correlated with an improved command of the ball too, with his 2.62 ERA well down from his previous career-low of 4.32 from last year. If Wrobo can continue to produce at this clip, he might not just stay in the Dodgers’ rotation when everyone gets fully healthy but could remain on the mound as a starter when the playoffs open up in October.
