A California-born grocery giant is turning dirt on its latest store set for Central Texas. Trader Joe's is in the process of building a new $5.7 million location in Cedar Park, a suburb north of Austin.
MySA visited the future Trader Joe's in Cedar Park on Monday, July 20 to check on the store's progress thus far. Once completed, this store will mark Trader Joe's first store in the growing north Austin city as the grocer continues to expand its footprint in Texas.
Construction was set to begin on the store in early January, and currently still appears to be underway. While there is no official signage or building up to resemble a Trader Joe's yet, the site is being cleared to make way for further work.
On our visit, we saw crews and cranes digging into the land surrounded by piles of dirt, rocks and construction materials. The area, which sits at the southwest corner of Whitestone Boulevard and Arrow Point Drive, will be transformed into a 64,000-square-foot retail space anchored by a Trader Joe's.
Trader Joe's will be nestled into the Cedar Park area surrounded by restaurants like Serranos, Round Rock Donuts and a Shake Shack. There are also medical offices across the street and nearby hotels such as Comfort Suites and a Motel 6 on Arrow Point Drive.
A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing says the store will be a 12,166 square foot space fit with a truck loading dock and pallet storage area. Construction is expected to wrap by October 1, 2027, per the TDLR. However, all filings are subject to change at any time.
MySA reached out to Trader Joe's for comment on if this store is still on track to be finished by this proposed date. Trader Joe's operates three Austin-area stores including downtown, the Arboretum, Rollingwood and Bee Cave.
