KSDK 5 On Your Side, Tegna’s NBC affiliate in St. Louis, today named experienced newsroom leader Denisha Thomas as the station’s news director. Thomas will guide KSDK’s multiplatform newsroom across broadcast, digital and streaming platforms.
Bringing more than 15 years of local journalism experience to the role, Thomas most recently was news content director at Tegna’s WXIA Atlanta. Also, during her time with Tegna, Thomas acted as news director at WWL New Orleans. Her resume also includes serving as a news director of WATN Memphis and production and leadership roles in Jonesboro, Ark.; Memphis; Cleveland; and Buffalo, N.Y.
“Denisha brings extraordinary depth of experience and a proven track record leading newsrooms throughout the country,” said Carol Fowler, vice president of content at Tegna. “Her demonstrated leadership, along with her focus on developing talent, make her exactly right for this position.”
A three-time Emmy-nominated producer and a four-time recipient of regional Edward R. Murrow awards, Thomas was named a fellow of the Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible Journalism and was elected to the Poynter Institute and Washington Post Leadership Academy for Diversity in Digital Media. In 2022, she was recognized as one of the Memphis Urban Elite Professionals 40 Under 40.
Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in convergence journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
