The San Francisco 49ers are less than two months away from kicking off their 2026 season against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. Among the many marquee games on the schedule for the 49ers this year is a mid-November game on the road against the Dallas Cowboys in a matchup of historical NFC powerhouses.
Recently, 49ers insider David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard took to X, formerly Twitter, with a simple request for the Cowboys amid news that San Francisco would be wearing their throwback uniforms for that matchup.
Lombardi also announced on X that “The 49ers will wear specialty uniforms four times this 2026 season…Week 10 at Cowboys (red throwbacks, ’94 style), Week 14 vs Rams (black rivalry uniforms), Week 15 at Chargers (all-white throwbacks), Week 17 vs Eagles (red throwbacks).”
It would certainly be a cool scene for old-school fans if the 49ers and Cowboys both wore their throwback uniforms for the matchup on November 15, which would likely conjure up memories of some of the classic games between the two franchises throughout NFL history. The 49ers have had the Cowboys’ number in recent seasons, beating them in the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023 and adding to the Cowboys’ long list of postseason failures in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, San Francisco is hoping for some much better luck on the injury front this season, after they were ravaged in that department a year ago. When healthy, the 49ers figure to have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, but that has become an increasingly large caveat in recent years, with stars like linebacker Fred Warner and quarterback Brock Purdy missing extensive time.
In any case, the 49ers’ upcoming season is slated to get underway on September 10.
