The Boston Red Sox are rolling along with a 14-game winning streak. Therefore, putting themselves in a position to contend for the AL Wild Card.
However, one of their pitchers was placed on the injured list. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly was placed on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. This was shortly after he had been recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
As a result, Kelly will be out until mid-September, right before the postseason begins. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are trying to secure a playoff bid after a sluggish first half of the season and Chad Tracy becoming the manager.

Additionally, Kelly joins three other Boston relievers on the 60-day injured list. Tanner Houck (torn right UCL), Johan Oviedo (right flexor strain), and Kutter Crawford (right flexor irritation) are the others.
In early July, Kelly was placed on the 7-day minor league injured list.
Kelly is 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances. Altogether, this news comes at a bad time given that the Red Sox are on the upswing. Plus, the season begins to head down the homestretch.
Kelly has proven himself to be a fairly consistent mid-inning reliever.
Since 2022, Kelly has been with Boston. Along the way, he has accumulated a career ERA of 4.04, an 8-8 record, and 127 strikeouts.
Overall, the Red Sox have an elite bullpen led by the likes of Aroldis Chapman, Justin Slaten, and Jovani Moran. According to Inside the Pen, the Boston bullpen has a 2.02 ERA over the last seven days in 22.1 innings pitched.
