No shelter animal has had an easy journey, but few stories are more heartbreaking than ones filled with loss. That's why NAWS Chicago volunteer @franflight was devastated to meet 17-year-old Cin, a tabby cat who found herself in the shelter after her human passed away.
The loving senior cat is clearly still grieving the loss of her person, who was the only family she ever had. Still, despite it all, Cin has nothing but love for her new friend, Fran. Watching the rescue cat cuddle up with her pal heals just a bit of the heartbreak, but Fran's fans won't feel any better until Cin finds a forever home where she can spend the rest of her days.
Pass the tissues, please! Even though she's still incredibly affectionate, Cin clearly feels lost without the love of the only person she's ever known. She can still feel the indentation of where her collar sat for nearly two decades, and this intense transition into the shelter must be taking its toll.
Anyone can tell that this kitty isn't feeling like herself, but it also doesn't take an expert to see that she has tons of love left to give. She melts into Fran's arms as if they've been friends for years, and whoever adopts her is going to be in for endless snuggles.
"Every time I go over to somebody’s house or meet someone’s pet on the street, the first thing I do is move the collar a little bit and scratch right under it," commented @pawsitivelyfurs. "Who knows how long it’s been on."
That's so thoughtful! Cin couldn't get enough of the neck massage Fran gave her, and she's definitely not the only pet who enjoys a good scratch every now and then. Still, an even better way to show this rescue cat some love would be to find her a forever home where she'll be pampered for good.

Adopting a senior cat is sometimes no different than adopting a younger cat, but some older felines have been through a particularly hard time. Cats like Cin, who have lost the only family and home they've ever known, may need extra time to decompress and open up, but once they do, they'll be so grateful to have a soft place to land.

Some seniors prefer having quieter surroundings to match their lower energy level, while others may be particularly set in their ways, but most older cats have a clear, established personality. What you see is what you get! Knowing this, it's a safe bet that Cin is precisely the chill, affectionate kitty she appears to be in the shelter. She may open up even more in her forever home!
