12-year-old boy who went missing in North Kansas City found safe

The boy was returned to his mother, police say.

The North Kansas City Police Department said a 12-year-old boy who was last seen Tuesday was found safe and returned to his mother.

A runaway child was reported missing after he was last seen Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. at 1121 Armour Road in North Kansas City, according to a news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol on behalf of the North Kansas City Police Department.

The 12-year-old boy is 5 foot, 9 inches with brown hair and brown eyes, police described. He was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt, gray shorts and white slide shoes.

Police said he was diagnosed with mental health conditions that put him at risk.

The child walked off after an argument with a family member, police said, and might wander to water or a hospital.
