Olathe is closer to adding a new duplex housing development near the Cedar Creek and Cedar Glenn residential neighborhoods in northwest Olathe.
Villas at Deer Cove will add 78 duplex units across about 35 acres on the southwest corner of College Boulevard and Cedar Creek Parkway, site development plans show.
The Olathe City Council approved a final plat for the development Tuesday. It was rezoned to the Cedar Creek District in February and added to the Cedar Creek Area Plan.
The Villas at Deer Cove will sit just west of Kansas Highway 7 and Cedar Creek Elementary School. Just northwest of the development sits Cedar Air Park.
The duplexes will be situated just south of a residential corridor in Olathe that’s lined with luxury homes ranging between $500,000 to $2 million.
Developer John Duggan submitted three different duplex styles that each featured natural stone and stucco exteriors. The homes will come with an attached two-car garage and other amenities, including a clubhouse on the property. His company, Cedar Creek Development LLC, has been involved in neighboring housing projects.
The duplex homes are designed to align with the Cedar Creek District’s architecture standards, city staff said.
Residents will access the duplex homes from College Boulevard to the north and Cedar Creek Parkway to the east. Three cul-de-sac streets would be built within the development to accommodate road changes.
According to a staff report, the development would also establish landscape tracts along College Boulevard for buffering. One tract would be preserved as natural open space that protects existing trees in the area.
