The Pokemon Company likes giving its fans a project. That project can be completing a Pokedex by catching hundreds of Pokemon, or building a Lego set that requires almost 7,000 pieces. The latest example really kicks things up a notch, as a jigsaw puzzle made up of more than 40,000 pieces has been revealed.
A Pokemon Puzzle In A League Of Its Own
Created in collaboration with tabletop experts Ravensburger, the Pokemon Celebration Journey puzzle is available to pre-order now, but you might want to check your bank account before you commit to buying one. Not only is the jigsaw bigger than the Venusaur/Charizard/Blastoise Lego set, but it’s also more expensive, with an MSRP of $729.99.
Money isn’t the only thing you’re going to need a lot of if you want to make one of these puzzles your own. There’s also space to consider. The exact number of pieces in the new Pokemon puzzle is 40,320. Once complete, it will be a whopping 268 inches long. That’s more than 22 feet. Most living rooms won’t be big enough to house this beast, even if you rid them of all that pesky furniture.
The Celebration Journey Puzzle Combines Ten Scenes Loaded With Pokemon
The puzzle is split into ten sections so, in theory, you could split it up into ten individual puzzles so that they’re easier to display. Each of those ten frames is packed with so many Pokemon that a significant chunk of the 1,025 that make up the National Dex are likely celebrated, although there do appear to be omissions.
Each panel has a different theme with the Pokemon waiting to be discovered matching it, for the most part. Muk and Magneton are hanging around what appears to be an abandoned power plant, for example, while Clefable, Steelix, and Zubat are lurking in the cave section of this gargantuan jigsaw puzzle.
Ravensburger has doubled up in some instances, too. Pikachu and the Eeveelutions make multiple appearances.
If you have the money, the space, and let’s be honest, the patience and time to complete a 40,000-piece Pokemon puzzle, then you can pre-order the Celebration Journey jigsaw on Amazon right now for $729.99. It won’t be officially released until October 7, 2026, and I’d hazard a guess you’ll still be piecing it together over the holidays and long into 2027.
If you want to build something Pokemon-themed sooner than that, and pay a lot less, 15 more Pokemon Lego sets will be released on August 1. There’s also what appears to be a very popular Poke Ball set releasing later this year that will have Pokemon’s first-ever minifigures inside.
