After nearly three decades, Pokémon Plakoro is finally back, and it is better than ever.
Fans can finally get their hands on the latest Pokémon Plakoro sets from Bandai Namco and Bandai Tabletop Games. The classic dice-rolling game is currently available in six different starter sets, including some of the most beloved Pokémon of all time, and with revamped gameplay that makes jumping into and mastering the game easier than longtime fans might remember.

Originally released in 1997, Pokémon Plakoro gives players the chance to battle one another through a unique set of dice comprised of Enekoro, energy dice, and Charakoro, a single, Pokémon-shaped die that represents any given player's chosen Starter and Type. Among the available Starters are Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Eevee, Pikachu and Mew, with each starter set currently available for around US$7.
Each starter set gives players everything they need, including one Charakoro, three Enekoro, 18 game chips, seven move cards, plus a life counter and game mat printed with instructional text and infographics.
Players can also collect individual token boxes for around US$3 each, with each set featuring custom chips, move cards and new Charakoro. The Pokémon Plakoro Adventure Set ramps things up with an assortment of Charakoro including Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Onix, Muk and Pinsir, each of which is available in one of three rarities and two different poses. Fans can also look forward to new expansions that will be released throughout the year.
While Pokémon Plakoro didn't make any major waves when it was originally released in 1997, the latest iteration of the game has already garnered plenty of attention from longtime and new fans alike thanks to its low price point and instantly recognizable game pieces. The game is widely available in Japan but can also now be purchased internationally, including in the U.S., from online retailers such as HobbyLink Japan, Plaza Japan and Meccha Japan, among others.
Of course, fans looking for a more traditional Pokémon video game experience also have plenty to turn to, not to mention plenty to look forward to in the next year. Currently, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Pokémon Winds & Waves, which will mark the tenth generation of mainline Pokémon games when they are released early next year.
Pokémon Winds & Waves will drop players into the middle of a tropical archipelago replete with small islands and underwater sections to be explored. Reportedly, Pokémon Winds & Waves will also feature some of the most open-ended travel that the franchise has seen thanks to an updated version of the Synchro Machine from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet -- one which will let players take control of their favorite Pokémon directly.
While this has yet to be confirmed, stepping into the shoes of any given Pokémon wouldn't be a first for the franchise, nor would the reported introduction of a Rotom Scooter.
