Yankees’ Max Fried dominates Pirates in stellar return from injury appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried made his return from the IL Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he was nothing short of spectacular. Fried spun five shutout innings to the tune of seven strikeouts, while allowing just one hit and one walk over the course of his day.
The return of Fried is a hugely welcome sight for the Bronx Bombers, especially with their rival Boston Red Sox beating everyone on their schedule amidst a 15-game win streak. A bone bruise put Fried on the IL over two months ago when the Red Sox were much further away from the Yankees in the AL East standings.
Currently, the Tampa Bay Rays lead the AL East with a record of 58-42, 2.5 games up on the Yankees at 56-45. However, the Red Sox’s recent winning ways have seen their record skyrocket to 52-48, up from 37-48, which has them just 3.5 games back of the Yankees and six games back of the Rays. This all has the AL East looking like a tight race down to the wire this season.

All that being said, with Fried back in the fold alongside former Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole and this year’s AL Cy Young favorite Cam Schlittler, the Yankees are getting the top of their rotation healthy and ready to go at just the right time. The AL East might have a few teams playing good baseball, but the Yankees faithful have to be feeling good for the home stretch with their top-of-the-rotation hurlers.
