TNA Wrestling once tried taking on WWE RAW every Monday. The move started a new Monday Night War in 2010. However, the battle ended after only ten short weeks. Former TNA star D’Lo Brown recently criticized that decision.
TNA launched its Monday Night Wars on January 4, 2010. The company moved Impact to Monday nights against WWE RAW. Eric Bischoff led the decision behind the bold move. Bischoff previously helped WCW battle WWE during the 1990s.
While WCW won 83 straight weeks in ratings, the company eventually closed after WWE bought it in 2001. Nearly a decade later, Bischoff tried another head-to-head battle with TNA.
D’Lo Brown slams TNA’s Monday Night Wars strategy
During Dark Side of the Ring, Eric Bischoff explained the thinking behind the move.”I went back to, I won’t say a bag of tricks, necessarily, but I went back to a strategy. Going head-to-head with WWE was going to make so much noise. It was about creating awareness.” [H/T: Fightful]
D’Lo Brown strongly disagreed with that approach. “I thought it was the dumbest thing. Trying to go Monday night live with a company that spends more on pyro than we spend on production.”
Unlike the original Monday Night Wars, this rivalry ended quickly. TNA’s battle with WWE RAW lasted only ten weeks. WWE won the ratings battle every single week.
