Why Sandusky police were called to remove 2 people from Sky Ride at Cedar Point

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) — Sandusky police at Cedar Point on July 15 removed two people who were refusing to get off the Sky Ride gondolas.

Security officers told police the guests were being forced to exit because they were carrying an “unapproved container of food,” reads a police report.

“It should be noted [July 15’s] forecast reached well into the high 90-degree mark and while the guests were refusing to exit the ride, other guests were stuck on the ride, suspended in the air,” the report reads.

Police warned the two people, later identified as Jerome Fordham and Vermell Mitchell, would be arrested if they refused to get off the ride.

They were ultimately arrested on misdemeanor charges of persistent disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. Mitchell was also charged with a misdemeanor count of obstructing official business, for allegedly giving police officers a fake name.

Both were transported to the Erie County jail.

A Cedar Point spokesperson on Tuesday declined to comment on the incident.
