Wicked: For Good has been added to another streaming service. The box office hit recently made its way to Netflix, and is trending No. 1 on the streamer’s list of Top 10 movies.
If you haven’t seen part two of movie musical that everyone is obsessed with, now is your chance. Wicked: For Good is the film adaptation of the second act of the Broadway musical Wicked. The story takes a look at how the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), became known as the villian in the land of Oz. It delves into her relationship with Glinda the Good Witch (Ariana Grande), and asks the question about what makes people truly evil.
Now that people are experiencing or re-experiencing the movie, people want to know if this Wizard of Oz spin-off has any characters from the original source material. If there is a lion, scarecrow, and tin-man, is there also a Dorothy? Read on to find out if the beloved Wizard of Oz protagonist is in the spin-off musical.

Is Dorothy in Wicked: For Good?
Yes! She is not featured as heavily as the other characters who were already present in Oz, but because the original story of The Wizard of Oz is technically taking place during the film, Dorothy is present. During the end of the film, Elphaba kidnaps Dorothy and has her locked in a trapped door. While she is down there, Glinda does come to see Elphaba, and we see the characters make up and we get to hear the gorgeous duet that is “For Good.”
Afterwards, we see the original Wizard of Oz ending play out. Dorothy throws a bucket of water on Elphaba, melting her, seemingly killing her. (It is revealed later she is not really dead.) This scene is mostly played out in shadow play, but we do get a quick glimpse of Dorothy’s face after she grabs Elphaba’s broom.
Who plays Dorothy in Wicked: For Good?
Dorothy is played by newcomer Bethany Weaver, a 30-year-old actress, dancer, and choreographer from the UK. She is the creative director for Pilates and Dance UK, and choreographed for the West End musical play, Asmahan. Wicked: For Good is her first on screen role, but perhaps we will see more of her in the future.
In an interview with Jess Lucero on the Plus One podcast, Weaver talked about what it was like to play the iconic role of Dorothy. “Stepping on that yellow brick road, wearing those silver shoes with the little blue socks, it was a really special moment,” she said. “I mean, I’m sure lots of people have grown up with the Wizard of Oz and of Judy Garland being a really important figure in their life. So, naturally, I stepped on the set not wanting to impersonate Judy Garland, but I definitely wanted to kind of carry an armor shaped of her.”
Weaver was the physical actress for Dorothy, but her limited dialogue was done in voiceover by Tara Strong. Strong is a well known voice actress who worked on shows like The Fairly Odd Parents, The Boondocks, The Powerpuff Girls, and more.
