JD and Usha Chilukuri Vance
JD Vance, 41, and Usha Chilukuri, 40, were students at Yale University when they met and both graduated Yale Law School.
JD was born in Middletown, Ohio and is a graduate of Ohio State after serving in the United States Marine Corps and a veteran of the Iraq War. His career includes serving as a law clerk, a corporate lawyer, a venture capitalist, an author, and a senator from Ohio, all before becoming Vice President of the United States. He wrote a memoir about his childhood called Hillbilly Elegy that went on to become a movie.
Usha was born in San Diego to immigrant parents from Andhra Pradesh, India. Her career included serving as a law clerk for Judges Amul Thapar, Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts and and working for law firm Munger, Tolles and Olsen LLP.
In 2014 JD and Usha married in Kentucky in an interfaith marriage ceremony, as she is a practicing Hindu and he is Christian. They share a daughter named Mirabel, 2 and three sons — Ewan, 6, Vivek, 4, and newborn baby Alec
Who is Ewan Vance?
Ewan Blaine Vance is the oldest son, born in June of 2017. He has occasionally appeared alongside his parents at public events and official appearances, becoming a familiar face during the vice president's rise on the national stage.
In an interview with Megyn Kelly in 2017, Usha described the surprise pregnancy and the anticipation of their first son. Kelly later posted a congratulations to the parents about Ewan's birth, with a pic of the happy family on her social media account.
Who is Vivek Vance?
Second son, Vivek, was born in February 2020, less than three years after Ewan.
During a speech on the Senate floor on Feb. 12, Vance used the moment to express an endearing moment of birthday wishes for Vivek, “I have a little guy named Vivek who was 3 years old yesterday but turned 4 today.”
Vance apologized for not being there before going on “But I want you to know that Daddy loves you very much. And I’m going to read this into the record because maybe you can watch it at home,” and then he proceeded to recite the 1990 Dr. Seuss Classic "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" inserting Vivek's name into the last verse, according to The Hill.
Who is Mirabel Vance?
In December 2021, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Mirabel — the third and youngest child before new baby Alec's birth this weekend. She has often been photographed with her brothers and parents during public events and travel.
When Mirabel was born, Vance shared the news in a social media post with a picture of the couple and baby from the hospital. It was captioned, "We were blessed with an early Christmas present this year. Everyone please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby both doing great, and we’re feeling very grateful this Christmas season."
What is the name of JD Vance's new baby?
The Vances announced July 19 that their newborn son is named Alec Neel Vance. In a statement, the couple said they were "excited" to welcome their baby boy and thanked medical staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit.
Alec Neel Vance's birth is notable because he is believed to be the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. Historians say the last comparable case was Vice President Schuyler Colfax, who welcomed a child while serving in 1870.
