A tornado warning has been issued in New Jersey for parts of Bergen, Essex, Passaic and Morris counties until 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21.

Tornado warnings have been issued for parts of Bergen, Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties until 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21.

"TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows," the National Weather Service said in its warning.

"A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Victory Gardens, or near Morristown, moving east at 25 mph," the NWS said in one warning.

One warning is for eastern Passaic County 3:45 p.m. The Bergen County alert was 3:15 p.m.

In Essex, it is the western portion of the county including Montclair, Caldwell, North Caldwell, Cedar Grove until 3:45 p.m.

The Morris towns listed included: Dover, East Hanover, Lincoln Park, Kinnelon, Boonton, Wharton, Rockaway, Morris Plains, Mount Arlington, Mountain Lakes, Riverdale, Victory Gardens, Parsippany, Pequannock Township, Lake Telemark, Succasunna-Kenvil, White Meadow Lake, and Hanover Township.

The agency also said: "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

Flash Flood warning for North Jersey

The NWS also issued a flash flood warning for North Jersey until 6:15 p.m.

The areas included in the warning are Bergen County, central Essex County, Hudson County and eastern Passaic County.

Tornado watch for New Jersey

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for New Jersey and the surrounding region on July 21 as strong storms hit the area.

A tornado watch has been issued for the entire state of New Jersey and the surrounding region on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The watch will in effect until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and applies to the entire state as well as New York City and parts of New York state as well as eastern Pennsylvania and parts of Delaware.
