The Chicago White Sox hold a slim lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central, as both teams are fighting for that No. 1 spot in the division. With the second half of the season underway, it appears Chicago will be without Kyle Teel again after he suffered a lower-body injury. It’s not an ideal time, as Cleveland is hot on the team’s heels in the playoff race.
It was announced that the 24-year-old catcher was placed on the 10-day IL with a left ankle sprain. The White Sox are recalling Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte to take Teel’s place on the major league roster.
“Prior to tonight’s game at the Texas Rangers, the Chicago White Sox placed catcher Kyle Teel on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain and recalled catcher Edgar Quero from Class AAA Charlotte,” the White Sox announced.

It’s been a tough year for the second-year pro, as Teel missed a majority of the first portion of the 2026 campaign due to severe leg injuries that pushed his debut this season to June. After just 19 appearances, Teel is heading back to the IL, giving Drew Romo another chance to step in as the starting catcher in Chicago.
Kyle Teel has had 63 at-bats so far this season and has been relatively cold at the plate. He’s recorded 12 hits, two home runs, and 14 RBIs while owning a .190 batting average and .271 OBP.
Edgar Quero heads back to the White Sox after initially filling in for Teel this season. However, he hasn’t been any better offensively despite having nearly 100 more at-bats. Quero enters Tuesday’s matchup vs. the Rangers with a .187 batting average and .253 OBP through 150 at-bats. He’s recorded 28 hits, two home runs, and 15 RBIs.
