Ore is one of the most valuable resources in Pocketpair’s Palworld survival game, being something that’s used in most crafting recipes in some sense. Your survival will depend on it, although it’ll be progressing and upgrading your equipment and tools that will help you adapt to newer surroundings.
Chromite is one of the new materials found in Palworld, coming in the Feybreak update, but with the release of 1.0, there were a couple of changes to where you’re able to find this precious ore. Thankfully, we know exactly how to extract it and where to look.
How to Dig Up Chromite
Unfortunately, Chromite is one of the more difficult ore materials to obtain Palworld simply because it has a couple of requirements to overcome, on top of finding specific spots in the world to farm for it.
Smokie
There are actually two different means of finding Chromite, the first being the easiest and most affordable (relatively). You will need to find a Pal named Smokie in the world. You probably have come across these adorable dog-like creatures roaming around the Febyreak Island to the south.
They usually run in packs and are found in the Scorched Hill section of Feybreak, namely the red portion of the map. There’s also a level 60 alpha to the southeast if you’re feeling lucky. Afterward, you will need to build Smokie’s Harness from the Technology Tree. This can only be unlocked at level 58, requiring a couple of important, but very gatherable materials:
- Leather x20
- Fiber x50
- Dark Fragment x10
- Paldium Fragment x40
After this is crafted, take Smokie with you in specific locations and use his special ability to sniff out Chromite.
Metal Detector
The second way to find Chromite that doesn’t require a Pal slot is crafting a Metal Detector. This is the same as Smokie’s Harness in that it requires level 58 on the Technology Tree, but it requires a lot more difficult material:
- Plasteel x30
- Paladium Fragment x100
- Circuit Board x30
- Nightstar Sand x20
As you can see, the Plasteel and Circuit Boards alone will set you back quite a bit, the former requiring Crude Oil, so it’s advised to just use Smokie to collect Chromite. Still, it’s an option nonetheless. All you’d need to do is equip it and use it while in a specific location to find the Chromite.
Where to Find Chromite
Now that you have the tools to actually extract Chromite from the ground, you will need to know where to look. With the release of 1.0, things have been adjusted a bit, but there’s still one location that’s the best bet to find the most Chromite.
You’ll want to find the Shield Dragon Tunnel is the northern part of the Scorched Hills. The coordinates are -958, -984. After you come across this teleport, look to the immediate east to find a tunnel. Follow this tunnel quite a ways until you come across a boss arena for the Alpha version of Silvegis.
You’ll likely have to defeat Silvegis considering it will be roaming the cave aimlessly otherwise and will take note of you at some point. Once it is taken care of, either break out your Smokie or Metal Detector and get to searching.
There will be various nodes spread throughout the cave that you can mine, preferably with the Plasma Multicutter (unlocked at level 54 of the tech tree) to get the most out of your run. If you’re overburdened by so much weight, be sure to also bring along a Dogen, found to the southeast of Feybreak Island. Its unique skill is to fast travel you to the closest base, but its cooldown is a lengthy 1000 seconds.
