Irving sat out the whole of last season due to an ACL injury, but all signs point to a full recovery for next season, which should only boost the Dallas Mavericks.
Many are curious to see how Irving and Cooper Flagg would play together. Irving has proven that he can play alongside another high-usage star, doing it with Luka Doncic en route to a trip to the NBA Finals in 2024.

He also did it with the Cleveland Cavaliers, serving as the sidekick of LeBron James, which led to a title in 2016. Iman Shumpert, who was a key part of that championship run, was a first-hand witness to Irving’s brilliance.
On “Run It Back,” Shumpert was asked to blind rank his teammates. He put Irving at No. 3, behind James and Carmelo Anthony. JR Smith and Kendrick Perkins were at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Shumpert played with Anthony on the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets.
You could argue that the 36-year-0ld Shumpert should have placed Irving at No. 2 instead of Anthony since he won a ring with the prolific guard.
Shumpert and Irving were teammates on the Cavaliers for three years, reaching the NBA Finals in each of them, and again for two years on the Brooklyn Nets.
Shumpert also played for the Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets. He had other talented teammates, including Amar’e Stoudemire, Jason Kidd, Kevin Love, Dwyane Wade, De’Aaron Fox, James Harden, Chris Paul, and Kevin Durant.
