NBA agent Rich Paul talked at length about the free agency of LeBron James on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, stressing that everyone should be extra patient with the four-time MVP as he weighs his decision about his future.
McAfee has earned the trust of big-name personalities over the years, allowing him to be candid with them and talk about sensitive topics.
Fortunately for the former NFL star, he was safe from the latest round of layoffs at ESPN. The network giant let go of around 70 people, including on-air talent like Cam Newton, Ryan Clark, and Karl Ravech, to name a few.

CBS Sports’ JJ Watt was also a guest of McAfee on Tuesday, as he was named the winner of the show’s First Team All-Good Guy Award. Watt, however, could not help but rib McAfee amid the sudden firings at ESPN.
“Slow news day over there on the ESPN airwaves. I mean, besides the fact that you’re getting $100 million per year. They’re taking everybody off the network,” said Watt, catching McAfee off guard.
McAfee tried to deflect the topic, but Watt was not done.
“Did they keep anybody? Or is everybody fired to pay you? I’m trying to figure it out,” added Watt with a smile.
While McAfee laughed, he maintained that he is just focused on his work.
“That’s not funny. We do not like that. We do not appreciate that. That is the narrative, and I’m surely taking it on the shins,” said the popular commentator.
McAfee signed a new contract with ESPN in 2023, although the amount was not disclosed. It was reported to be over eight figures.
He has also faced multiple controversies on his show, including a defamation case filed by NFL icon Brett Favre and for amplifying a false rumor about a college student, which led to harassment and bullying.
