New restaurant makes hot pot dishes their main focus.

Get a meal to match the skyrocketing temperatures outside at Richland’s new hot pot restaurant: FlavorJoy.

Its owners say FlavorJoy, which opened in March, is Richland’s first-ever mini hot pot experience.

Garden Hot Pot, at 140 Gage Blvd., offers a shared experience for the entire table.

For those new to the realm of hot pot, it is a highly customizable culinary adventure. Customers can choose proteins, broth bases and what vegetables they want to cook right at the table.

Bringing authentic flavor to the Tri-Cities

Co-owners Jingwei Zhang and Jiao Wu are from Sichuan, China, which is credited with being the birthplace of hot pot.

In Sichuan, they ran hot pot restaurants and knew they wanted to bring authentic flavors and recipes with them when they moved to the Tri-Cities.

To do so, they focus their menu around a fire and ice concept. The fire, their hot pots, work in tandem with the ice, their drink menus, to provide guests with a refreshing meal.

Customizable flavor

At FlavorJoy, creating a meal is as easy as two steps.

First, choose your protein. Options include beef, lamb and seafood. For those wanting to skip the meat, they also offer assorted vegetables.

Then, select a broth base. The five choices are umami mushroom, sun-kissed tomato, szechuan mala fire, golden chicken and heritage cabbage. The szechuan mala fire and umami mushroom are the most popular, according to Wu.

Each order also includes a side of rice, signature sauce, cabbage, corn, zucchini and more.

“The milk tea here I can say is the best in town,” said Manager Tammy Liu.
