Coming off a momentous American League Championship Series appearance last season, the Seattle Mariners have not looked like much of a contender through a mediocre first four months of the 2026 MLB campaign. True to form, they are once again driving up their fan base’s medical bills. Fortunately, the Seattle Seahawks stopped by to bring some cheer.
The Super Bowl 60 champions proved that a team could shatter expectations and achieve immortality without an excess of star power. They had established themselves as the class of the league by the playoffs but still faced plenty of outside skepticism. Sam Darnold perfectly epitomized the franchise’s rapid rise. Hopefully, he was able to deliver some inspiration to T-Mobile Park on Tuesday night.
Seattle’s star quarterback threw the ceremonial first pitch before the Mariners’ inter-league matchup versus the Cincinnati Reds, via the US/UKsportsHQ X account. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, president of football operations John Schneider, tight end AJ Barner, and backup QBs Jalen Milroe and Drew Lock joined Darnold on the mound. Positive energy pulsated through the stadium, but it did not last for long.

Reds pillar Elly De La Cruz belted a lead-off home run versus Luis Castillo, former M’s slugger Eugenio Suarez went yard in the fourth and Seattle ultimately left the park with a 4-2 loss. The Seahawks can only do so much to ignite this .500 ballclub. They have their own season to worry about.
Sam Darnold and other veteran players on the team will report to training camp on Thursday, and the first official practice will take place on Friday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Though, before No. 14 shifts fully into football mode, perhaps he can offer a few tips to the Mariners.
Seattle (51-51) will end the series and six-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon.
