The Boston Celtics had an interesting offseason to say the least following a disappointing first-round exit in the 2026 NBA Playoffs. However, with the NBA Draft and Jaylen Brown drama behind them, the Celtics can begin taking stock of their 2026 NBA Summer League performance.
Hugo González and Amari Williams headlined returning Summer League talents along with John Tonje who played seven total minutes last season. Boston went 3-2 during the tournament and finished with a loss to Orlando in the consolation bracket, but the talent on display was much more promising than their finish in the standings.
2026 draft picks Chris Cenac Jr. (27th overall) and Dillon Mitchell (40th overall) were also on display for the first time, both looking natural and adapting well to the speed of the game. Cenac Jr. averaged 10.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 1.0 APG, and 2.8 blocks in 23.3 minutes across his four appearances. Dillon Mitchell scored a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, and six steals in their 87-75 win over the Hornets, so clearly both rookies are beginning to pan out as hoped.

However the majority of the Sumer League players are undrafted and fighting for a spot on the roster. One player in particular was able to make his case as rookie PG Milos Uzan from Houston arguably looked like the most promising undrafted talent out there. Making the start in all five of the Celtics’ games, Uzan averaged 9.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 4.0 APG while showing great control of the offense around him.
His most impressive performance came against the Charlotte Hornets where Uzan scored 13 points on 5-11 FG (3-6 3PT) while adding four rebounds, six assists, and just two turnovers in 31 minutes of game time. His (+/-) was a whopping +24, leading all players in the win and showing he can do a little of everything with the ball in his hands.
Celtics observers consistently praised his poise, clutch shot-making, and ability to maximize possessions, grading him among the team’s top Summer League performers. Controlling the tempo and making quick decisions around screening teammates qualify Uzan as an ideal fit for Boston’s scheme.
The signing of Milos Uzan would fit the mold of Brad Stevens’ philosophy of dependable, productive, and efficient players that also maximize the cap space for the team. Uzan would serve as a secondary playmaker alongside Payton Pritchard to improve the flow of the game. He’s also very active without the ball and will space the floor for Jayson Tatum while also getting open and making the most of his opportunities around the rim.
Uzan also fits Boston’s defensive identity as he competes hard and communicates actively off the ball. He plays with a high basketball IQ and does a great job limiting his turnovers, two qualities Joe Mazzulla will certainly appreciate and potentially rely upon. The Celtics no longer possess the overwhelming star depth that carried them over recent years, meaning role players capable of playing mistake-free basketball are more valuable than ever.
Finally, while Milos Uzan certainly won’t be able to fully replace the scoring and production of Jaylen Brown, the Celtics don’t necessarily need him to be the same type of player. The Celtics moved on from Brown for a reason and it’s clear their intention is to build a roster full of players that understand winning basketball and will embrace their role. Uzan is one of those players that will strengthen the collective of a team while still contributing impactfully, so expect him to fit right in with this Celtics’ roster.
