Following a devastating and controversial end to their 2025 campaign, Notre Dame football is widely expected to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff this season. Despite losing star running back Jeremiyah Love and others, the Fighting Irish have the talent and favorable schedule to join the 12-team field. Their chances for success could increase even further if a certain offensive lineman returns to action. Sixth-year head coach Marcus Freeman provided the latest Charles Jagusah injury update.
And it was fairly optimistic. “I do believe he will play for us at some point,” the 2024 Paul “Bear” Bryant Award recipient told the media, per Jack Soble of BlueandGold.com and On3. “I don’t know when. Actually, if you asked me to bet, I would hope it’s this season at some point. I don’t know, though.”
While it is nice to see Freeman express positivity regarding Jagusah’s future status, there is still uncertainty surrounding the former four-star recruit. Given the severity of the injury, Notre Dame knows it cannot rush him back to the field.

Jagusah, who missed most of the 2024-25 season with a torn pectoral, fractured a bone in his left arm after getting into a utility-vehicle accident in Wyoming last July. There was a time when it seemed overly risky to forecast a return date for 2026, but Marcus Freeman and company are obviously pleased with the progress the Rock island, Illinois native is making. There is still a long way to go, however.
Charles Jagusah arrived in South Bend as the No. 8-ranked offensive tackle in the 2023 class, per 247 Sports. This young talent still possesses a considerable amount of promise. The question is, will he get the opportunity to realize it?
While Jagusah continues to work through his recovery, Notre Dame football is preparing for its Sept. 6 season opener against Wisconsin.
