The Golden State Warriors are still holding onto hope that LeBron James will take his talents to the Bay Area in free agency. Such a move would be necessary to give the Dubs any chance of competing with teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference.
Speaking of the Thunder, Oklahoma City recently made another cost-cutting move by trading Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a three-team deal that sent Zaccharie Riscaher to the Dallas Mavericks. Now, Warriors power forward Draymond Green has weighed in on the deal.
“You know, Lu Dort’s a big loss for OKC, he is one of their better defenders…At times it’s gonna put Jalen Williams on the best perimeter player on the opposing team… Lu Dort can guard bigger guy and smaller guys, I don’t know that Cason Wallace has that versatility,” said Green, per The Draymond Green Show on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, while Wallace is an elite perimeter defender, he won’t be able to take on some of the bigger matchups that Dort locked down for Oklahoma City over the last several years. However, Dort’s outside shooting numbers plummeted last year after a strong 2024-25 season, which certainly made trading him an easier pill to swallow for the team.
Despite the trades of Dort, Aaron Wiggins, and Isaiah Joe, the Thunder still figure to be multiple tiers above the Warriors in the Western Conference, although that could change if Golden State were able to lure in James. The former league MVP has reportedly whittled his options down to a few teams, with Golden State being among them.
At this point, there is no official word on when fans can expect a decision.
