Voltron Turns to the Dark Side With a Limited-Edition Mecha Collectible

Voltron, one of the most iconic giant robots of all time, gets a dark new premium collectible based on its most recent animated adaptation.

Voltron, which began decades ago,is perhaps the most notable example of a Western adaptation of an anime that far eclipses thesource material. Now, one of the most recent iterations is receiving a stunning new collectible, courtesy of Blitzway.

Part of the company's Carbotix line, Voltron: Legendary Defender Carbotix Voltron (Black Ver.) Limited Edition is a dark-colored version of the giant robot. Remixing a previous release from the series, this version includes all the lions needed to build the iconic mecha. Available to pre-order now, it's sadly limited to a small production run, so fans should hurry to get theirs.

Voltron Gets a Dark New Design in Latest Carbotix Collectible

As the name suggests, Voltron: Legendary Defender Carbotix Voltron (Black Ver.) Limited Edition takes the previous Carbotix toy for Voltron and recolors all the lions black, creating a very different visual appearance.

Based on the version of the mech from the 2016 cartoon Voltron: Legendary Defender, the basic design is an update of the one derived from the 1981 anime Beast King GoLion, but with the lions themselves having a more lithe and less blocky form. There are also still some subtle color variations that differentiate each cat from the others (small sections colored in blue, red or other colors). The pearl-black coating creates an even more premium finish, so those who missed out on the previous version of the toy are in luck with this take.

Each lion also has a specific Lion sword, and the toy features a Blazing Sword and two Dual Swords. Other accessories include a Wing Shield, the joints for attaching the shield, a display base (complete with weapon storage), and both precision tweezers and a parts separator to better handle the figures' fine details.

Standing at just over 17 inches in height, the complete Voltron figure is made of die-cast and plastic, with LED lights illuminating the eyes to contrast against all the black.

Available for pre-order on websites such as BigBadToyStore for US$649.99, it's expected to ship sometime in September 2026, but there's a catch for those who wish to wait. There will be only 1,500 units produced, so now's the time to order this elite action figure and ensure it's added to your collection.

As noted, Voltron: Legendary Defender is now 10 years old, whereas the original Voltron is now over 40 years old. Blitzway's Carbotix line has already added giant robots from several mecha anime, with the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise being just one example.
