There’s no doubt that the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback position is up for grabs. And Kyler Murray is under plenty of pressure. But there’s more to the picture. The Vikings’ crowded quarterback room will have needy teams keeping tabs on the roster dilemma.
Along with Murray and JJ McCarthy, who will battle it out for the QB1 spot, the Vikings have Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer. And all four have NFL value in varying degrees.
How will the Vikings’ QB situation shake out?
The player that may have the most eyes on him is Brosmer. Thrust into action last season, the undrafted free agent hit on 47 of 71 passes for 328 yards. That’s a completion percentage of 66.2. However, Brosmer tossed four interceptions with zero touchdown passes. Still, he managed to compile a 1-1 record as a starter.

And there may be something there, according to The Athletic.
“Optimism for Brosmer persists,” Alec Lewis wrote. “The Vikings wished he didn’t have to play during his rookie season, but circumstances thrust him into the spotlight. Release him, and opposing teams will have interest.”
Along with Brosmer, other teams may be interested in the veteran Wentz. You don’t want Wentz to be your starter, but he’s not a bad backup. However, he may stick with the Vikings.
“The wily veteran knows the system,” Lewis wrote. “He doesn’t need many reps. The Vikings re-signed him for a reason: reliability.”
It’s extremely unlikely the Vikings would let go of McCarthy. He looked awful last season, but has reportedly shown improvement as the team prepares for 2026.
“Layering passes remains a priority, but assessing his performance will be much easier than it was last year when juxtaposed with Sam Howell,” Lewis wrote.
As for Murray, he has a chance to rewrite his career story. After failing to lift the Cardinals to prominence, he could find second-team gold with the Vikings.
“His intelligence and arm talent energized the Vikings staff this spring,” Lewis wrote. “Leadership and decision-making are the current priorities.”
