Two seriously injured in RV explosion east of Tahlequah, investigation underway

Two people were seriously injured after an RV exploded Wednesday morning in Cherokee County, according to the Tahlequah Fire Department.

The explosion happened just after 8 a.m. along U.S. Highway 62 east of Tahlequah and also ignited a fire that spread to a neighboring RV.

The Tahlequah Fire Department said its crews were requested to assist the Welling Fire Department after reports of the explosion and fire.

Fire spread to neighboring RV

When firefighters arrived, they found the original RV engulfed in flames and a neighboring RV also on fire as a result of the explosion. Officials said the neighboring RV was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

The two injured people had already been transported from the scene in a personal vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

Investigation underway

Investigators from the Tahlequah Fire Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are investigating what caused the explosion.
