Two men were arrested a little more than a month after a woman was shot outside a bar in South Carolina according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Saquan Davis, 31, and Alterik Mays, 26, each face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime connected to the June 10 shooting in the parking lot of McCary’s Restaurant and Grill, the sheriff’s department said Monday night in a news release.
Mays also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and additional charges related to drugs and a gun found where he was staying, according to the release. He also faces charges under Sheriff Leon Lott’s Parent Accountability Initiative after investigators found juveniles had access to the unsecured gun and drugs, the sheriff’s department said.
At about 5:45 a.m. June 10, deputies responded to reports of a shooting where one person was injured at 851 Bush River Road, which is McCary’s, according to the release. That’s in a part of Columbia between Broad River Road and I-26.
Deputies learned that the woman who was shot in the upper body was driving herself to an area hospital, according to the release. Columbia Police Department officers were able to locate the victim and her vehicle and Richland County EMS was dispatched to take her to the hospital for medical treatment, the sheriff’s department said.
Further information on her condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Deputies learned that a physical altercation had taken place in the parking lot, stemming from an argument inside, and the victim was shot, the sheriff’s department said. Information about what led to the original argument, and if Mays and Davis knew the victim before the shooting, was not available.
Surveillance footage showed that Davis and Mays arrived at the restaurant together, and later both men were seen on video with firearms, shooting at the victim, according to the release.
Davis was arrested on warrants related to this shooting Monday, after a traffic stop in the Rock Hill area, the sheriff’s department said. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he was also charged with resisting arrest and petty larceny, jail records show.
No bond has been set for Davis, according to jail records.
Mays was arrested by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on July 8, following a traffic stop, according to the release. After being released on a $150,000 surety bond, Mays was arrested again on July 16, following a search connected to the shooting investigation, the sheriff’s department said.
Mays bond related to the charges from the search were set at $75,000, according to the release. Richland County court records show that Mays posted bond, and he’s not listed on the jail’s inmate roster.
This was not the first time there was a shooting on the bar’s property. In 2019, two people were killed in a shooting at McCary’s and two others were injured. Three of the shooting victims were customers, and one was an employee.
