Two Alabama teenagers were arrested Monday afternoon in Walton County, Florida, after a motorist reported seeing a passenger wave a handgun out of a car window on Highway 98.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received the call just after 2 p.m. regarding an older model gray Nissan Sentra with an Alabama license plate near Inlet Beach. A deputy located the vehicle shortly after near the intersection of Highway 98 and County Highway 293, conducting a traffic stop as the car turned northbound onto Highway 331 South.
Deputies detained the driver, 17-year-old Jonathan Ean Smith of Greenville, Alabama, and the passenger, 16-year-old Gabriel Josiah Crysell of Honoraville, Alabama.
During a search, officers found a loaded .40-caliber Glock in Crysell’s waistband. A search of the vehicle revealed a black backpack containing a second loaded .40-caliber Glock, alcohol, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies also seized $3,900 in cash from inside the car.
Smith was charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 18, possession of cannabis, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Crysell faces charges of removing a serial number from a firearm, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, possession of cannabis, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both teenagers were transported to the Walton County Jail for booking prior to their transfer to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.
