Minnesota Twins starter Joe Ryan surrendered six home runs in four innings against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night at Progressive Field, matching the most allowed by an MLB pitcher in a game since 1900.
Ryan gave up 10 hits and eight earned runs while striking out three and issuing no walks. Brayan Rocchio and Rhys Hoskins homered in the first inning before Petey Halpin and Travis Bazzana went deep in the second. Hoskins added another homer in the third, and Halpin delivered his second of the game in the fourth.
The six home runs established a Twins single-game record for a pitcher and helped Cleveland build an 8-2 lead through four innings.

Ryan’s struggles defined the series opener, as the Guardians hit seven home runs in a 13-4 victory over the Twins. Six came against the 30-year-old right-hander, who allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits in just four innings.
The outing marked a stunning collapse for the two-time All-Star, who entered the game fresh off his second consecutive selection. Ryan carried a 2.85 ERA into Monday and had surrendered just 10 home runs across 110 1/3 innings this season. He increased that total by 60% in one night while setting a Twins single-game record for home runs allowed by a pitcher.
Halpin’s night was particularly notable because both blasts were the first two home runs of his major league career. His second-inning homer helped Cleveland seize control early, while his fourth-inning solo shot completed the sixth home run allowed by Ryan in the game.
