Trump claims 'communist left' wants to 'blow up' Mount Rushmore at Georgia rally

MARIETTA, GEORGIA: President Donald Trump on Wednesday, July 22, claimed during a rally in Georgia that the "communist left" wants to "blow up" and "take down" Mount Rushmore as he continued attacking Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.

During the event, Trump devoted a portion of his remarks to warning supporters about what he described as the growing threat of communism in the United States.

The comments marked the latest instance of Trump framing communism as a central political issue, echoing similar themes from his recent Independence Day speech at Mount Rushmore.

Trump calls communism America's greatest threat

During an event promoting "Trump Accounts," the president argued that the United States was facing an ideological threat from what he described as the "communist left," accusing Democrats of embracing communist ideas under a different name.

"When instead right, there's nothing like it. The radical left is actively trying to destroy our children's future with the disaster known as communism. It's communism. This isn't the social Democrat, these are communists by another name, right?" Trump said.

The president then referenced his recent visit to Mount Rushmore, claiming political opponents wanted to remove the national monument.

"You know, the communists want to take it down. They try taking Mount Rushmore down. They want to blow it up, they want to take it down. They shouldn't be up there. These people are crazy."

Trump went on to describe communism as the greatest threat facing the country.

"But communism is, in my opinion, communism is the single greatest threat to our country and its history, including even World War I and World War II, Pearl Harbor, 9/11."

He also told supporters, "I think it's the greatest threat that I've ever seen to our country. These people are stone-cold crazy."

Trump doubles down on Mount Rushmore remarks

Trump's remarks in Georgia were consistent with a message he has repeatedly delivered in recent weeks, most notably during his Independence Day address at Mount Rushmore, where he portrayed communism as a direct threat to the nation's founding principles and American identity.

During that speech, Trump contrasted communist ideology with patriotism, saying, "You can be loyal to Karl Marx, or you can be loyal to America. You can be a Communist, or you can be a Patriot. You cannot be both."

Trump argued that communism represents "an ideology of mass theft, mass control, mass lies, and mass murder" and said the issue extends beyond ordinary political disagreements.

He also suggested that efforts to reinterpret American history were part of a broader attempt to weaken the country's national identity. 

Concluding his Mount Rushmore address, Trump called on Americans to reject communist ideology and defend the country's founding values.

"We resolve and swear for all to hear that the Citizens of the United States of America will vanquish Communism from our shores," Trump said. "America will never be a Communist country."
