Truck collides with RTD bus on 16th Street, Commerce City Police say

Police were pursuing the truck before it crashed into the bus. No one on the bus was injured, and the occupants of the truck went to a hospital.

A truck crashed into a Regional Transportation District bus at 16th Street and Champa Street in downtown Denver after a police pursuit on Tuesday.

Officers were pursuing the truck because the passenger was an accessory to an attempted murder suspect, related to a shooting at a gas station on Sunday that critically injured a man pumping gas at a 7-Eleven at Highway 2 and 72nd Avenue, according to Commerce City Police.

Officers spotted the suspect getting into the passenger seat of the vehicle in Commerce City and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle eluded officers, according to the department.

Police began pursuing the vehicle around 1:15 p.m. near 65th Avenue and Leyden Street, but officers stopped the pursuit in Denver when they lost sight of the vehicle –– which later crashed into the bus, the department said.

No one on the bus was injured, but the truck driver and suspect were taken to the hospital, the department said. They each face several charges, the department said.
