Jury selection began Monday in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the 36-year-old Massachusetts mother and former nurse accused of strangling her three young children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months—inside their Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023.

While the defense acknowledges Clancy killed the children, attorney Kevin Reddington argues she is not “criminally responsible” due to her severe mental state. Reddington contends that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she sent her husband, Patrick, out for takeout and a pharmacy prescription.

When he returned less than 30 minutes later, he found Clancy severely injured after jumping from a second-story window in a suicide attempt, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. He then discovered the three children had been strangled with exercise bands.

Clancy, who has pleaded not guilty, spent five days in a psychiatric hospital weeks before the deaths. Civil lawsuits filed by the couple allege medical providers failed to properly diagnose and monitor her condition, noting she was prescribed nearly 10 medications in the months prior, including eight within a three-week span.

According to court filings, Clancy reported hearing voices telling her to harm herself and her children.

“Jurors should hear why Patrick Clancy and his wife Lindsay would go to consult with doctors because of depression… a life that she was living, which was one of horrific misery because of medications,” Reddington argued in a June hearing.

Prosecutors maintain the killings were deliberate, intentional, and not the result of a psychotic break.

Patrick Clancy is expected to testify in his wife’s defense, having publicly forgiven her and urged the public not to see her as a monster, stating, “I was married to someone who got sick.”

Jury selection for the 18-member panel is expected to take several days, with the trial projected to last several weeks.

Thousands of non-American citizens were allowed to register to vote thanks to a "software error" in the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles, the state's governor announced Tuesday. In a lengthy post on the social media platform X, Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill went to great pains to emphasize that the error took place before she took office. And she went even further, attacking President Donald Trump in the process. "Last week I learned...
