Two tornadoes touched down in New Jersey on Tuesday, July 21, as severe thunderstorms swept across the tri-state area.
The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes near Parsippany-Troy Hills in Morris County and Stanhope in Sussex County, about an hour from New York City. Meteorologists continued surveying the damage Tuesday and are expected to determine the tornadoes' EF ratings by Wednesday evening.
Videos shared on social media showed funnel clouds over northern New Jersey and debris left behind by the storms.

The National Weather Service is also investigating reports of possible tornado activity near Cape May, New Jersey, and in Westchester County. Those reports have not yet been confirmed.
Where did tornadoes touch down in New Jersey?
The National Weather Service confirmed tornadoes in:
- Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County
- Stanhope, Sussex County
The first tornado was reported near Parsippany around 2:10 p.m. About 30 minutes later, another tornado was reported near Stanhope.
The storms knocked down trees, scattered debris along Route 206 and left nearly 1,000 utility customers in northeastern New Jersey without power. No injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service is conducting damage surveys and expects to assign EF ratings to the tornadoes by Wednesday evening.
Was there a tornado in New York?
The National Weather Service is investigating storm damage near Purchase and Rye Brook in Westchester County after damage patterns observed between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday appeared to be consistent with possible tornado activity.
Rachel Frank, a meteorologist with FOX 61 in Hartford, Connecticut, said Doppler radar detected rotation "indicative of a spinning column" and appeared to show tree branches being lifted into the air.
However, the National Weather Service has not confirmed that a tornado touched down in New York.
Meteorologists at the agency's New York office on Long Island are expected to release additional findings after completing damage surveys Wednesday evening.
