A flood watch and severe thunderstorm warning have been issued for parts of the Lower Hudson Valley as storms move through the region Tuesday, July 21.
The National Weather Service said a flood watch is in effect for New York City and Bergen County from 8 a.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday. As of 10 a.m., the flood watch had been expanded to include Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties.
A flash flood advisory has also been issued for Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Nassau and Suffolk counties through 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorms threaten Hudson Valley
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Westchester and Rockland counties through 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said heavy thunderstorms were moving along a line from Ossining to Hackensack at about 35 mph. The storms could produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Minor flooding in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage has already been reported in parts of the Bronx and southern Westchester, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rain could bring flooding
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout Tuesday, with rainfall totals generally between 1 and 2 inches. Isolated areas could receive 3 to 4 inches of rain.
The National Weather Service said the strongest storms near New York City could produce rainfall rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour. The Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island could also see areas of intense flash flooding.

- White Plains
- Tarrytown
- Nanuet
- Haverstraw
- New City
Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways and monitor weather alerts as conditions can change quickly.
